Chile

At 4300 kilometres long and only about 175 kilometres wide on average, Chile takes up most of the Pacific coast of South America, and like its neighbour Argentina, it is a country of variety and interest from top to bottom.

At the Southern tip, Puerto Natales nestles amongst the fjords and mountains of Chilean Patagonia and offers the potential for spectacular climbing and walking and the Southern end of the Navimag ferry, a nautical journey any traveller would do well to explore. Further up the lakes, Chiloe, the island trapped in time, where you can see the most amazing of seabirds and wildlife and get in touch with the islands mysterious history.

Then there is Valparaiso, the artisitic idyll in the hills, where graffiti adorns the walls and ascensores save your legs from the tortuous ascents. Santiago is a modern and exciting city where you can see both the influences of Europe and the traditional ways Latin American ways rubbing shoulder by shoulder in a truly great 21st Century city.

La Serena, the little town that gives you a feel for the rest of the country in one place. Where the future meets the past and nature is king. And finally, San Pedro de Atacama, gateway to the natural wonder that is the Atacama Desert and the salt flats of Bolivia.

In Chile you can experience the world in one country.
